What’s in a name?

What does your name say about you?

Well I will share my story here, this is the story of how I got my name as handed down to me by my mother:

My mother was reading a story when she came upon the name - “Lydia“. It was of Greek origin.

It means “of Lydia” in Greek. Lydia was a region on the west coast of Asia Minor. In the New Testament this is the name of a woman converted by Saint Paul. She so liked this name she decide that her first born girl would have this name. But sometimes God laughs at our plans and he steps in.

On my mother’s wedding day her father had borrowed this expensive camera from his best friend for the occasion, and on arriving at the hotel to collect my mother, he had forgot the camera in the back seat of the taxi and the taxi had driven away. So my mother began to pray to St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost and stolen articles. My mom was not very religious but had a habit of always misplacing things and so had developed an intimate relationship with St. Anthony. She asked him if he returned the camera she would promise her first born child to him. No sooner had my mother finished her prayer and was ready to leave for the church, the taxi driver was in the lobby looking for my grandfather. When she thanked him, he told her that he was in two minds to keep the camera and drove around the block a couple of times and then a voice told him to return the camera. Being born in Madrid, Spain and having a Spanish father I was named Antonia Lydia Sanchez-Ache. Spanish children carry the Father and mothers surname, I guess so everyone knows who you belong to, and who to go to whenever you get into trouble.

Well I started thinking - St. Anthony of Padua, the contemplative, was a preacher and a teacher, was the patron saint of lost and stolen items , also the poor and travelers.

How could that possibly relate to my coaching?

  • Well I offer that space where you can come to re discover, to contemplate all that seems lost to you. A place to see where you have misplaced your time, energy, freedom, self-expression and personal power. What steals these away from you?
  • People come to me because at times they do not see the abundance in their lives, they feel drained, empty, stuck, can’t see their way forward, what they have to offer.
  • My first workshop is entitled Joy’n the Journey, a one year journey, where we meet once a month for group coaching. We call ourselves travelers and journeyers, on a contemplative path of self-discovery, bringing joy, passion, fulfillment and purpose to our lives.

Perhaps there is more to a name than we can really see, look for your connections, look for the gifts. It is difficult at times to see how things are unfolding, but when we look at things with fresh eyes, new perspectives, possibility, you can see the lessons and the gifts, and a purpose can unfold before your eyes.

What’s your story behind your name?

My Biggest Wow - wildest thing.

WHAT IS THE WILDEST MOMENT YOU CAN REMEMBER?

I don’t know how it works for others, but when I am asked a question, a thought pops into my head and eventhough I may try to shake it, sometimes it will not let me go and I know that is what I need to share. Today is the 8th anniversary of my mom’s passing, and as I look back, I wanted to share this wild moment.

So my biggest wow was having to sit with my mom, who had cancer and plan her funeral, write her obituary, design her coffin and treat this event as a major party event in her life. I took dictation six months before she passed. We planned, and brainstormed, all the while we laughed, entertained ourselves and made a most serious and morbid experience one of the most treasured and extra-ordinary.

She had a guest list of fifty people she wanted at the funeral, this was totally unrealistic as she was very loved and a social butterfly. We joked about her leaving me and going to “Lalaland” and I would be stuck here telling people they are not on “The List.” She dictated her letter of wishes stating to whom each item of value would go. She planned her private cremation “party” and gave me instructions that the obituary would not go into the newspapers until the day after, so I would not be bombarded with calls. She stated at the end of the obituary that her friends and family were invited to a “Cooler Party” (everyone brings their drinks) at her home by the sea in Blanchisseuse. Come celebrate my life and bring a Pelau ( a rice, chicken, peas dish that is a specialty in Trinidad) it stated.

The wow for me was the most incredible and intimate conversations I had with my mom, and the valuable lesson she taught me. Live, Love and Laugh a whole lot. Laughter is the best medicine.

The best part of this is that every thing I wrote down, happened exactly as she had planned, even the night she slipped away in the wee hours of the morning, surrounded by only her family. Every detail of her plan occurred exactly as it was written. Even in her last days she could plan a future, have a vision and set her own goals. We were left to celebrate. Holding the space for my mom as she slipped away was a life-changing experience for me.

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to revisit this WOW moment -Women Of Worth doing wild things.

I also lost my mother-in-law in March last year, another WOW women and WOW moment. It was a totally different experience than my mom’s passing. Yet I know that even though she did not write down her plans everything has a divine timing and nothing happens before it should. Even when the body and mind could hold on no longer, her essence, her soul, her spirit held on for that specific moment, when a daughter and son would be both present to say goodbye.

Yet I believe there are angels that greet us when we are born and those that are there to say goodbye. If ever you are present to witness the passing it is a lesson for you, that if you are totally present will forever change your life. You are one of those angels when you are present to witness the passing. I believe that death is truly the doorway to life - our life, a way of deepening our consciousness. I treasure every moment I have been at the side of a loved one that has passed and there have been many, they have been the most compassionate moments of my life.

I believe that surrounding our love ones, and holding that sacred space for them is the most loving thing we can do. Those moments are the WOW moments in my life.

Passion and Purpose

Temperance Looking at this image:

Where can you see passion and purpose?

This is the card of Temperance. It signifies the blending and combining to create something new or distinctly different.

Temperance asks us to combine spontaniety, and knowledge and preserve the best aspects of the past and find new and creative uses for them in the present.

Recognize unconscious material and mix it with conscious awareness so that it “flows” as one.

When I looked at this card I saw the water as life, the jug as purpose ( the context for your life), and the woman as passion.

There is an ease and gracious quality to this card, which I find very exciting.

When we follow our passions, we have an intention,(she is focused), we give it attention (commitment and persistence)and then there is no tension.(ease, grace, flow)

When we are passionate about something, it is because it brings us joy, because that activity allows us to grow, to expand and to evolve.

Passions are how you live your life, goals are things which you achieve.
Keys to creating a passionate life: commitment, clarity, attention, keeping an open mind, integrity, persistence, follow your heart.

Some of my passions;

  • Bringing joy
  • Sharing quality time and moments with my family
  • Sharing intimate moments with my husband
  • Challenging myself and others
