All things in Moderation this is a lesson I have learned this week. This week my radio show was Power of SelfCare. I have noticed that I have a very intense personality and have a tendency to go over board and be excessive in all that I do. I am very focused and driven in the projects and activities that make my heart sing. I can see where I can ignore everything else in front of me including me. Taking time out to breathe to relax, to rejuvenate, to replenish my spirit. I constantly need to be committed to a rhythm in my life a flow so that I do not play more than work or work more than play. Whenever I get overwhelmed I see it as a sign that my soul is calling me back to center.
My guest Karen Cappello suggested that we look at our Selfcare through a wholistic approach.
Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. These are the four elements found in nature and Ancient Cultures believed that everything consists of its own unique blend of these elements.
So it is up to each of us to find that unique blend that nurtures our Spirit.
What do we need to let go of that no longer serves us and in so doing create a clearing for the new?…..
Karen suggests that in each of the four areas we ask the questions:
- What do I need to release?
- What do I need to let in more of?
What is my flow, my rhythm? How can I open my heart to myself?
Physical:
What I need to release?
Clean out a closet, a drawer, a bookshelf, create space for change, shift the energy. It is a powerful metaphor for letting your energy flow.
what I need more of?
Relaxation, go inside, do nothing, do not fill my space with activity and busyness, just look at the juicyness of my life, allow the space for creativity, do nothing just allow the space.
Emotional:
What I need to release?
Any deep wounds from the past, they no longer serve me, they drain my energy, they need to be healed.
What do I need more of ?
I am willing to develop an attitude of openness, acceptance, forgiveness, self-love, compassion. Let myself be more receptive and softer and listen to my heart.
Have fun and Laugh more. Laughter is God’s medicine.
Intellectual:
What do I need to release?
I need to let go of control, if things are a bit chaotic, relax, if things are not running smoothly, its okay, let go of the nervous energy that drains me and all those around me. Let go of my angry thoughts.
What do I need more of?
I need to become aware of my thoughts and patterns so that I can make responsible choices.
Spend time journaling my thoughts getting to the heart of the matter and releasing it. Read expand my mind, spend time with people who share ideas, insights, experiences that enrich my life.
Spiritual:
What do I need to release?
all the structures in my life that keep me busy, all the unnatural routines, chasing from one thing to the next, constantly doing.
What I need more of?
Meditation, listen to my intuition, be an observer in my life and not get caught up and attached to it. Enjoy every moment for what it is a miracle that cannot be replaced. Become more present to my life. Everything can flow more smoothly from a relaxed state of mind. When I am relaxed and at ease , I can recognize opportunities when they present themselves.
- What is your personal rhythm and flow for the four elements in your life?
- What would it look like for you to nurture yourself?
Self love and self respect are the ultimate acts of Self Care, so love and respect yourself, you are the best judge of what is right for you.
