No sooner had I finished my EFT radio Interview with EFT Master Maggie Adkins, I received an email from one of my local listeners to let me know that there was an all day workshop on EFT in my country. It was being facilitated by Jan Harr B.A. EFT -adv. from Colorado. I was so excited, as I had read the EFT manual looked at all the training videos, but did not want to pass up the opportunity to participate in a workshop…………….
Well I organized what I needed to as the workshop was being hosted during my working hours and signed up as the last participant. I must say it was a most enjoyable workshop. There were many councellors, therapists, and psychologists present. I was the only life coach there, and decided that I would submerge myself in the experience.
When the time came for a volunteer, absolutely no one would put their hand up. I waited to give other people the opportunity, but when no one picked it up I dived right in. I wanted to continue working on the issue of public speaking which I used during my interview with my guest, Maggie Adkins on Empowering Space .
I sat in the middle of the room and the facilitator held my hand and began tapping while she spoke to me about my issue. While she tapped on the various tapping points I was able to really focus on the issue. She used all the words in my story to then form short reminder phrases that were used as she continued to tap. The tapping helps you focus intently on the issue, repeat the story and each time she tapped on a different point, another thought would come to mind which would then help to unravel the story. It helped clear the thoughts that had collapsed to create the belief and story -
- “I cannot speak publicly, unless everything I say is perfect and without mistakes.”
- “People laugh at you when you make mistakes.”
- “I feel uncomfortable with everyone’s eyes focused on me.”
- “I feel vulnerable, naked, they may not approve of what they see”
I understood my confusion. “Con”+ “Fusion” = confusion. Its when we take two or more thoughts and fuse them as one. If I speak publicly I will forget what I want to say when all eyes are on me, I will make mistakes and people will laugh. I will feel and look stupid. Public Speaking will make me look and feel stupid.
I know what was supposed to be a four minute tapping, turned into 10 minutes as I cleared out all the old beliefs, sobbed and had a wonderful healing. I felt totally free.
I realized that each belief you have is like a table, each aspect of that belief is a leg that supports the table. You may have to tap on a particular issue a number of times depending on each aspect that supports the belief. It is only through the inquiry, and bringing the issues into awareness can we then let it go. If we are afraid to step into that space and ask “Is this true” then we will continue with our story, our excuses and justifications and keep ourselves small by limiting our true potential.
At the workshop we were able to see someone who is addicted to smoking use eft to keep her from smoking for the entire day. Another volunteer shared her experience of being in an earthquake and using the Movie Technique was able to uncover her beliefs and why she lives her life as she does - in constant alertness.
Emotional Freedom Techniques helps one see clearly how we create our own reality through our thoughts, words, emotions and beliefs.
- What baggage are you carrying with you?
- What is weighing you down?
- What keeps you back from your true potential?
I learned how essential listening skills are to EFT and life. Listening for language people use can give you an insight into their thoughts and beliefs.
Being able to reframe and shift perspectives is also another valuable tool to keep in your “lifeskills” tool box.
Everything in life is a choice, so choose wisely.
What thoughts serve you and which no longer serve you?
What do you choose to believe today?
I know have a little tool in EFT,whenever I feel resistance, pain, stressed, I can use my fingertips and tap my way to freedom from unquestioned thoughts.
